I picked up a book about the Bush - Saudi family connections at a second hand shop:
House of Bush, House of Saud by Craig Unger. Unger describes the close relationship between the two dynasties as a marriage. Except that the Saudis are in an even older marriage: their close bonds with the Wahhabi religious clan. Together they rule Saudi Arabia - almost like the ancient kings and priests used to rule together.
Unger quotes Italy's former prime minister Giulio Andreotti: "It is not unusual for Muslims to be in polygamous relationships". But it is only when you understand ancient covenants (
suzerain covenants being an case in point) that you can make sense of this threesome that seems hard to understand from a modern perspective.
I am beginning to see covenants everywhere.
